Alexandra Ward

I am one of three ward councillors for Alexandra ward. I am a Conservative councillor, as is

Richard Hudson , my fellow ward colleague. The third councillor is a Lib Dem.

Alexandra Ward is one of four wards in the (Lib Dem controlled) Surbiton Neighbourhood, of

the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. The ward runs from the part of Berrylands

nearest to Tolworth, to beyond the Sunray Estate. The ward boundary runs down the centre

of Tolworth Broadway. You can see a map of the ward by clicking on the link at the bottom of

  the page.

I always fight hard for my own ward and a recent success has been futher investment in play

areas at the end of Knollmead and in Donald Woods Gardens. I was also instrumental in

increasing the amount of youth workers and amenities for local children.

I'm a strong supporter of the local Alexandra Safer Neighbourhood Team,

who do fantastic work. However, I do have concerns about the support they

receive from the central Kingston Police, especially in the evening or late at

night. Please do contact me if you have any problems getting an adequate

and timely response to any urgent telephone call to the Police.

Alexandra ward contains Tolworth Library and is close to the larger Surbiton Library. Tolworth Library gives a fantastic service for its small size, especially for local children. The Library also brings people to the Broadway, which is beneficial to the local shops.

Unfortunately there continues to be a threat to the future of our local libraries from the

Lib Dem council. They have produced reports that show that they are looking at

possibly merging or closing our local Libraries. Not so long ago the Lib Dems did try

and close down Tudor Library in North Kingston, and it was only when the Conservatives

and local residents fought a high profile campaign that they backed down. At a Surbiton

Neighbourhood Committee meeting in early 2009, the Lib Dems refused to rule out

closure of either the Surbiton or Tolworth branch libraries. I can assure you that both

Cllr Hudson and I will strongly contest any attempted closure of either of these libraries,

unless local residents are completely happy with the suggested alternative.
