Kingston Council
Kingston Council is currently run by the Lib Dems who have been in full control since 2002.
There are a total of 48 councillors who are elected every four years by the people who live in the Borough. Each councillor represents a local ward in the Borough. There are 16 wards and each ward has 3 councillors.
Despite the Conservatives receiving more votes at the last election, the Lib Dems received more councillors. The Council consists of 25 Lib Dems, 21 Conservatives, 1 Labour and 1 Independent.
The Borough is also divided into four Neighbourhoods. The Lib Dems currently run 3 of the 4 Neighbourhoods - Kingston Town (green), Surbiton (blue) and South of the Borough (yellow). The Conservatives run Maldens & Coombe (red).
Unfortunately the Lib Dems have not done well since they gained full control. The Council Tax has risen dramatically every year, leaving us with the HIGHEST COUNCIL TAX IN LONDON. They have also made poor choices when it comes to prioritising services. They have chosen to cut essential services for the elderly and disabled, yet seem more than happy to waste money on unnecessary backroom staff, water fountains and poorly managed contracts and services.
I would like the Council to concentrate on good quality core Council services such as roads, pavements, rubbish & recycling collection, elderly & disabled care, schools etc. I want value for money.
